Wicklow Way farm has been growing certified organic vegetables for twelve years. Our property is 40 acres and we cultivate 6 acres of vegetables and some fruits. We have an outdoor wood-fired oven where we bake artisan sourdough breads for our farmers markets. We have 100 heritage laying hens and we run pastured poultry for meat during the warmer months. Our focus is on food, the meal on the plate, not just the vegetables. We strive to provide a positive food experience for our customers which involves talking extensively about food, how to prepare and cook it, and how to savour and enjoy it. Much time and care is taken to wash, bundle and present beautiful produce at our farmers markets. All farm team members report to and take direction and guidance from the field supervisor who is actively involved in the day-to-day farm operations. The farm team consists of four full-time team members plus the two farm owners. This is a seasonal, PAID position starting in May to the end of October. Hours are Monday to Friday 9 am to 6 pm with an hour lunch break. Accommodation is available for a minimal rental fee and is across the road from the farm.

Description of position: 
The right person loves farm work, including fine detailed seeding, weeding, cooking, and eating and is also approachable and pleasant, a good communicator, easy to work with and enjoys all aspects of the farm lifestyle. Previous experience working on an organic farm is an asset though we will also consider those applicants who are currently attending sustainable agriculture programs, students who require a co-op placement, and those who have completed previous farm internships. The list below is a good example of some of our daily tasks: o Seedling production o Cultivation/weeding o Transplanting o Pest management o Harvesting o Record keeping o Washing and bundling of produce for markets o Maintaining a clean work environment o Attending farmers markets as required This position requires the candidate to be or to have a: o Appreciation of cooking and eating well o Love of learning and challenging themselves o Physically fit o Able to lift 50 pounds o Strong work ethic with high standards o Enthusiastic and upbeat o A team player o Able to work both independently and within a team environment o Willing to work in all weather conditions o A non-smoker Minimum wage of $14 per hour.
