About the Program

The Farms at Work Maple Syrup Production Field Course is designed to provide novice maple syrup producers with the skills and experience they need to get started in maple production and become familiar with the maple production community.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn from a well-respected, established maple syrup producer in a small group setting.

Following the progression of the maple season, each field day focuses on seasonally appropriate topics including:

  • Maple bush management
  • Production facilities and equipment
  • Producing maple syrup
  • Making value-added products
  • Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Info Day
  • Economics and marketing
  • End of season clean up

In addition to 30 hours of field instruction, each participant also receives up to 4 hours of individual telephone/email support and an Affiliate Membership with the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers' Association ($30 value). 

In order to maintain a high level of quality instruction and hands-on learning opportunities, a maximum of eight participants are accepted into the program.
