Maple Syrup Production Mentorship Program
About the Program
The Farms at Work Maple Syrup Production Mentorship Program is designed to provide novice maple syrup producers with the skills and experience they need to get started in maple production under the mentorship of a well-respected, established maple syrup producer. The focus of the program is to develop the hands-on skills and confidence needed to manage the maple bush, and sustainably produce maple syrup and value-added products, as well as helping mentees to integrate into the larger maple production community.
Following the progression of the maple season, each mentorship day focuses on seasonally appropriate topics including:
- Maple bush management
- Production facilities and equipment
- Producing maple syrup
- Making value-added products
- Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Info Day
- Economics and marketing
- End of season clean up
In addition to the 30+ hours of mentor instruction included in the program, each mentee also receives an Affiliate Membership with the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers' Association ($30 value).
In order to maintain a high level of quality instruction and hands-on learning opportunities, a maximum of six mentees are accepted into the program.
Five field days from October 2015-May 2016
