The Value of Protecting Farmland

Let's talk about whether we need to be concerned about our farmland in the face of development pressure to build on good agricultural land. Bring your thoughts.

Monday May 27,

6:30 coffee and dessert, 7PM start

Baxter Creek Golf Club, 1702 Cedar Valley Road, Fraserville (near Millbrook)

Tickets are free, RSVP requested:  https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-value-of-protecting-farmlan…

The evening will feature presentations by Farms at Work, Ontario Farmland Trust, and Ontario Federation of Agriculture.

Presentation topics will include:

  • the cost of providing municipal services for farmland vs. residential land using a case study from Ontario

  • the value of food-producing lands, and how much land is needed to feed us

  • the status of farmland protection in Peterborough County

  • the use and benefits of protecting farmland with provincial policies and Farmland Easement Agreements

All are welcome to attend and join the conversation. Questions and discussion are encouraged, and there will be time to chat with presenters dring the evening.

This is FREE event but donations at the door will be accepted to support the continuing work of the host organizations.

Farms at Work honoured by Sustainable Peterborough

We are pleased to have been honoured, along with Otonabee Region Conservation Authority, for our work in protecting water quality. Last year the East Central Farm Stewardship Fund assisted 7 farms - 3 in Peterborough County - to achieve on-farm improvements that will help keep water clean.
