2011 OBA Tech-Transfer Workshops:

Introductory Beekeeping and

Beekeeping & Integrated Pest Management

For both workshops:

Time:   8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Location:  Dancing Bee Apiaries, 3384 Loyalist Road, Canton, ON, L1A 3V7.

Lunch:  Provided with registration fee.  Coffee and snacks also included.

 

Cost: OBA members: $110.62 plus 13% HST. (Total = $125.00 per person per workshop)

Non-members: $119.47 plus 13% HST. (Total = $135.00 per person per workshop)

 

Note: Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 24 participants, on a first come, first serve basis.

Please bring a bee hat and veil, a bee suit (eg. coveralls) and suitable footwear, as there will be hands-on instruction in the bee yard.  If you require help in obtaining some items contact Lenka Petric.

 

Workshop #1: “Introductory Beekeeping”

Date: Saturday June 4th, 2011

This beekeeping workshop consists of classroom sessions and hands-on lessons in the bee yard.  Participants of all experience levels are welcome.  Topics include basic honey bee biology, beekeeping equipment, working in the bee colony, seasonal beekeeper responsibilities, harvesting and extracting honey and preparing bee colonies for winter.  Each participant will receive a copy of the Ontario Beekeeping Manual.

 

Workshop #2:  “Beekeeping and IPM (Integrated Pest Management)”

Date: Sunday June 5th, 2011

This intermediate beekeeping workshop consists of classroom sessions and hands-on lessons in the bee yard.  Participants should have taken an Introductory Beekeeping workshop or course and/or have at least one season of beekeeping experience prior to attending.  Topics include pest and disease biology and identification, monitoring for pests and diseases, record keeping, treatments and integrated pest management.  Each participant will receive a copy of the Ontario Beekeeping Manual.
