Calling on Chicken Farmers in the CFO Artisanal Chicken Program!

Farms at Work is seeking a farmer in the Chicken Farmers' of Ontario Artisanal Chicken Program to host an Artisanal Chicken Farming Workshop & Farm Tour at their farm this summer. This opportunity will give other farmers insight into how an Artisanal Chicken farm operates and how to apply and qualify for the program. The host farm will receive compensation for offering their facilities and knowledge to the participants.

Monitoring for Pollinators and Beneficial Insects on Farms

Farms at Work is pleased to be working with the University of Guelph to monitor pollinators on farms in Central Ontario.  This project is a first for Ontario and will allow researchers and the farming community to work together to gather information about native pollinators that are important on farms.  If your farm would like to participate in the project, please contact sue@farmsatwork.ca by Friday, May 13th.

Seed and Pesticide Bag Collections 

CleanFARMS partners with ag-retailers and seed dealers to collect empty seed and pesticide bags from farmers in Eastern Canada. This project started three years ago and with the support of Canada's leading seed companies, and it is now available across Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. 

Collection runs from May to September 2016. Collection sites in east central Ontario include:

Identifying and Reporting Suspected Bee Poisonings

The Ontario Beekeepers' Association is encouraging beekeepers to report all cases of chronic or acute bee poisonings to the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (519-826-2895). Also let the OBA know if you report a beekill.
