Calling All On-Farm MacGyvers!

Our friends over at Farm and Food Care Ontario and Carrot Cache have a couple of great contests open now for all you creative on-farm problem solvers. So dust off your handiest farm invention and consider entering either (or both) of the contests below for your chance to win!

Farm & Food Care Farm Invention Challenge

$9,000 in Cash Prizes

Tinkering, mending, dabbling, modifying, revolutionizing – whatever it is that you do in your workshop, barn or out in the field, now is your chance for your MacGyver side to shine and win some cash.

Farm & Food Care is launching the Ontario-wide Farm Invention Challenge with $9,000 in cash prizes available for winning entries in the categories of animal care and water efficiency and quality.

Farm & Food Care will profile winning entries as part of our commitment to doing the right thing in animal care and the environment. The Farm Invention Challenge will help share creative ideas and methods that farmers are using on their farms every day.

All entries must be submitted to Farm and Food Care by January 2, 2015. For full contest details, please visit the Farm and Food Care website

Carrot Cache Organic Farming Innovation Prize

Two separate $500 prizes will be awarded for innovative, low cost solutions to planting, harvesting, and managing food grown on an Ontario urban or rural organic farm.  The prize hopes to encourage farmers to share proven, creative ways to build financial and environmental sustainability on-farm.  Ideas will be displayed at the Ecological Farmers of Ontario Conference, December 4-6, 2014, and winners will be selected by conference attendees.

Describe your innovative time, money or energy saving method as demonstrated on an Ontario urban or rural organic farm in 2 paragraphs or less. Send 1 photo and an estimated cost of project with your description in a Word doc titled “innovation prize_farm name” to rebekka@carrrotcache.com with "Innovation Prize" in the subject field. Email submissions are due December 2, 2014.  Conference attendees can alternately bring 2 copies of a 1 page printout to submit at registration by Friday morning, December 4th.

Carrot Cache is a small foundation that funds co-operatives, local organic food initiatives and community food strategies in Ontario. Top ideas will be shared on www.carrotcache.com and the Carrot Cache facebook page.
