2017 Sheep Field Course Almost Full...Apply NOW!

The Farms at Work Sheep Farming Field Course has been designed to help beginning shepherds establish a base of experience that can be applied to the development, expansion or refinement of their own sheep rearing operations. It is a hands-on, immersive introduction to sheep handling and flock management, built around a comprehensive curriculum developed and led by highly respected and experienced sheep breeders.

Along with six field days at the instructors' farm, each participant will receive a total of four hours of one-on-one support (email or telephone). The curriculum emphasizes practical, hands-on skills and knowledge in a variety of areas, including:

  • how to get started in sheep
  • flock nutrition
  • health and reproduction
  • routine flock management
  • small construction projects

In order to maintain a high level of quality instruction and hands-on learning opportunities, a maximum of eight participants will be accepted into the program.
