Dear friends,
Fifteen years ago, I launched Farms at Work with the goal of supporting farmers, keeping farmland productive, and connecting our communities to the food and land that sustain us.
The statistics were clear, even back then. Baby boomer farmers were retiring in growing numbers, with no one to take over the farm. Farmland was being sold to non-farmers and too much of it was being taken out of production. Meanwhile, the population we needed to feed was ever-increasing. Since then, climate events, tariffs and the pandemic have underlined our need to produce more food here at home, ensuring more control over our sources of food.
Over the past fifteen years, Farms at Work has served more than 5000 people through knowledge-sharing workshops, farm tours and community events.
It Takes a Community
This year, thanks to supporters like you, we continued to advance our mission by:
- Serving hundreds of farmers and community members through knowledge-sharing workshops, farm tours and public presentations;
- Reaching out to non-farming owners of farmland to help them learn about their role in keeping farmland in production;
- Promoting Find Farmland, our new bulletin board for posting available farmland
- Updating our guide to Making Good Farmland Agreements
- Engaging with the community to build the foundation for our Community Farm
…and much more!
🌱 Together, these efforts are strengthening the future of farming in our region and beyond.
We Need Your Support Today
Farms at Work receives no annual core funding. Our work depends on the generous support of donors like you. Today, I am asking you to please consider making a tax-receiptable donation to help us keep connecting, educating, and strengthening the roots of our regional food system.

Thank you for being a partner in this work and for helping Farms at Work grow a resilient, thriving agricultural community for the future we all need.With gratitude,

Pat Learmonth
Founder & current Board Member, Farms at Work
P. S. We’re thrilled to share that the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough offered the opportunity to match all donations to our Farms at Work Fund to a maximum of $5,000 this year AND that one generous and dedicated donor fulfilled our ENTIRE matching opportunity. Thank you to a local farm family for demonstrating community support for our work!
🌾 Thank you for any support you are able to offer at this time.
