Where to start if you want to better understand your farmland.

Environmental Farm Plan Workshops

These workshops, offered free by the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association, are a great opportunity to learn more about your property. Both owners and tenants of farmland may complete an Environmental Farm Plan, which involves assessing risks and solutions to environmental risks on farms.

Mapping

With AgMaps, you can:

  • view aerial photographs of your land
  • create custom maps for your land
  • customize and label your maps using mapping tools
  • create farm sketches for government programs
  • research soil information for your land

Well Records

To find well records for your farm, visit:

Well records are used to:

  • learn about the groundwater and geology of an area
  • to best locate new wells
    find existing wells
  • provide original construction information about existing wells, including depth and pumping rate at that time

Septic Systems

If you would like more information about your system’s dimensions and capacity, contact your municipality to see if they have a record of installation on file. To see whether the system is working properly, contact a local installer of septic systems to have it inspected.

Farmland Health Check-ups

If your land is rented to a farmer growing a crop rotation, you could suggest that they request a free Farmland Health Check-up through Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association.The assessment evaluates key aspects of farmland health, including:
