Fresh Faced Farmers at the East Central Farm Show
For the second consecutive year, Farms at Work highlighted the great work and new faces of young farmers from around the Kawarthas at the East Central Farm Show in Lindsay, Ontario. The annual event was held at the Lindsay Fairgrounds on March 7th and 8th and drew close to 2,600 attendees.
Our large booth featured a slideshow and photo albums highlighting the work of new farmers from around the region as well as information on the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee Project and several programs offered through FarmStart and Everdale. Also showcased was Fleming College’s Sustainable Agriculture program as well as internships and training opportunities offered through C.R.A.F.T. Ontario.
Great interest in our work was evident throughout the show in the fantastic questions and comments that were received from patrons, who were interested in learning about land access, production techniques, small business management and marketing strategies. Also evident was growing support from established farmers looking to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of food producers in the region.
Farms at Work would like to acknowledge the efforts of Jess Foote, Julie Fleming and Jay Adam in helping to organize this year’s booth, as well as Annie Richard, Anne Powell and the Sustainable Agriculture students who helped to work the booth and field questions during the show. Thank you!
